Belk, Inc. is an American department store chain founded in 1888 by William Henry Belk in Monroe, North Carolina, with nearly 300 locations in 16 states. Belk stores and Belk.com offer apparel, shoes, accessories, cosmetics, home furnishings, and a wedding registry.
Initially named Four Seasons Mall, the shopping center showcased Belk, JCPenney, and Meyer's, a Greensboro-based department store owned by Allied Stores, serving as the primary anchor tenants. Secondary anchors included Miller & Rhoads, Frankenberger's, Thalhimer's, and McCrory's.
In 1995, Proffitt's purchased Parks-Belk, an independently owned affiliate of Charlotte, North Carolina based Belk, Inc. This purchase gave Proffitt's a presence for the first time in Greeneville, Tennessee , and gave the company an additional store in each mall in Kingsport and Johnson City .
The first store opened its doors in Tennessee. Belk outlet stores sell clearance items from its larger stores.
Crabtree (formerly Crabtree Valley Mall) is a regional shopping mall located in Raleigh, North Carolina. At 1,343,109 square feet (124,778.9 m 2), it’s the largest enclosed mall in the Research Triangle area. The mall features Macy's, Belk, and Belk Men's Store.
Today the mall has an even mix of national and local stores, with a focus on specialty retailers. History. The mall originally opened with Ivey's and Belk (Belk-Leggett Horton) in 1973, and Roses Stores as a junior anchor. It was developed by E. N. Richards and originally featured 78 stores. Ivey's became Dillard's in 1990.
