General Mills, Inc., is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of branded processed consumer foods sold through retail stores. Founded on the banks of the Mississippi River at Saint Anthony Falls in Minneapolis , the company originally gained fame for being a large flour miller .
Cadwallader Colden Washburn (April 22, 1818 – May 14, 1882) was an American businessman, politician, and soldier who founded a mill that later became General Mills. A member of the Washburn family of Maine, he was a U.S. congressman and governor of Wisconsin, and served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
Career. Powell joined General Mills in 1979. He subsequently held a variety of management positions at the company. From 1999 to 2004, he was CEO of Cereal Partners Worldwide, a joint venture between General Mills and Nestlé. In 2005, he was appointed as the company's U.S. retail unit chief.
Early this morning, General Mills announced that earnings rose an impressive 35%, with a profit of $548.9 million. That's $0.82 per share, up from $0.61 per share in the same quarter last year.
